My mom is under the impression that all dancing (irish, specifically) is more than being a show of giggling girls with flashy dresses and fake wigs and makeup? She doesn’t understand that I love it, and I need to make her see the real face of Irish Dancing. Yes, I know that some girls are like that stereotype, but most aren’t. Any help would be appreciated!!

Irish Dance is HARD WORK. The curly wigs and makeup are only for competitions. We’re not just prancing around. If that’s what you think it is, you try it. You’ll be proved wrong immediately. We’re not a bunch of giggling girls, we’re real people and we do this because it’s our heritage, and we love it. You listen. The makeup and the sparkly dresses are to get noticed by the judges. Yes, maybe we WANT to feel pretty while we dance. What’s so wrong with that? The wigs are an old Irish Tradition. The Irish would curl their hair and dance after church. They’re in pretty dresses and wigs, but they dance beautifully. Watch riverdance. But don’t get the impression that Irish Dance is JUST THAT.
