Foods That are Beneficial for the Health of Your Hair

Do you have dry, brittle or thinning hair? Many of us suffer from one or more of these hair dilemmas. However, most of us tend to blame our shampoos and conditioners for not giving us that sleek shiny look that we saw on the television commercial. What we don’t realize is that healthy, shiny hair starts from within. The nutrients which we put into our bodies have a very big impact on the health of our hair. If a healthy diet is a part of your lifestyle, then your hair will be stronger, shinier and more manageable. So what are some of the foods we can incorporate into our diets in order to stimulate healthy hair.

Salmon is a very valuable source when it comes to healthy hair nutrition. Salmon is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin B12 and iron. All of these elements aid in scalp health and hair growth. Other sources of hair supporting nutrients come from dark green vegetables. Dark green vegetables include, but are not limited to, spinach and broccoli. These vegetables are known to contain high levels of iron, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin C. The vitamins in these greens aid in the production of Sebum. Sebum is the oily substance which is secreted by our hair follicles. Sebum is also known as the body’s natural hair conditioner.

Nuts also contain a great deal of hair supporting nutrients. Cashews, walnuts, pecans, and almonds are all a great source of iron, omega 3 fatty acids, and zinc. Zinc is an important nutrient when it comes down to hair health. When you have a Zinc deficiency you will most likely experience more hair loss.

So the next time you feel that your hair is lacking that luster and growth, try providing your body with a hair healthy diet.
