What You Eat Might Slow Down Hair Loss and Make Hair Loss Reversible

Is your hair falling out at an alarming rate? Or are you worried you may lose it soon due to a family history of baldness? Then look to your diet as your first line of attack against hair loss. Help keep what you’ve got longer or even make hair loss reversible by following these smart food tips.

Americans have a higher rate of baldness than any other nation. Why is that? Because we love our food to contain an abundance of four things more than any other: protein, salt, sugar and fat. Eating poor quality foods – especially those high in fat, protein and salt – hurts the kidneys and leads to hair loss, at least according to Far Eastern and alternative Western medicine. The belief is that hair is weakened by the acidic blood produced by the damaged kidneys. At the very least, your eating habits could be quickening the loss of your hair much faster than normal and hindering any efforts at re-growing your hair.

Protein is a tricky one. You can increase testosterone levels and elevate your chances of hair loss by eating too much high-fat protein, but you can also lose your hair by eating too little protein. What’s the happy medium? Eat lean proteins like fish (salmon has hair-healthy omega-3 fatty acids), chicken, eggs, almonds and beans. Diets high in dairy may also work against you and any efforts to make your hair loss reversible.

Regarding fat, salt and sugar, you can eliminate much of it from your diet by getting rid of packaged and processed foods. Eating whole foods (otherwise known as ‘real foods’) – fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fresh meats, healthy oils and nuts – gives your body and hair a well-balanced diet packed with natural vitamins and minerals, something processed, phony foods can’t provide. And lay off that salt shaker! If you enjoy a little salt now and again, at least opt for mineral-rich sea salt as it’s the better option. Keep in mind the more you eliminate sodium, high fat and sugar from your diet the less you crave it. And the more you will appreciate the rich flavors of whole foods.

Here are some other benefits of whole foods. Those rich in iron are great for hair health and these include eggs, raisins, dates, kale, spinach and whole grain cereals.

Silica is a nutrient you’ll also want to consider. It’s a big helper in preventing hair loss and encouraging hair growth. The body uses silica to help it absorb minerals and vitamins. You can find it naturally in whole foods like bean sprouts, red and green peppers, cucumber skins and potatoes.

So there you go. Look closely at your diet and see if it contains high fat, high protein, high salt and excessive sugar. You can opt for a better way of eating that helps your hair stay its strongest. Male pattern baldness treatments or help for female thinning hair never tasted so good!
